PBS determined existing conditions through field investigations, then studied modifications and changes required to increase the cooling capacity of each cooling tower from 1,000 ton to 1,200 tons, considering requirements for all pipe sizing and condenser water flow of the existing chillers. This study determined the optimum design to provide adequate condenser water circulation through all three cells at all times to maintain tower chemistry through all operating phases; single, double or all three towers operating in a 1, 2, or 3 chillers online mode and back up mode for Tower No. 4. Finally, a wet bulb approach control strategy was implemented into the cooling tower controls.
